Cuts for Cancer
What's the reason behind all this?
Cuts for Cancer is a wonderful event that brings the whole community together and creates increased awareness for an important cause. Cuts for Cancer is a two day event on campus that strives to raise money for cancer research & hair donations to make wigs for cancer patients. You can get 10 inches of hair cut, shave your head (or do both!) or give a monetary donation. Styled cuts from stylists in the Kingston community are offered to those who get 10 inches or more of their hair cut. It is truly amazing to see people donate hair and shave their heads to support people that they have never met. Queen's Cuts for Cancer has raised over $91 000 for the Canadian Cancer Society since it's inception in 2002! We hope to reach and exceed our goal of $10,000 this year.
So, what's the deal with the hair?
The hair that is donated is shipped to Angel Hair for Kids and Locks of Love, organizations that collect hair donations and manufactures wigs for children in need. The wigs are used for children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss, particularly those with the autoimmune disease Alopecia areata, for which there is no known cause or cure. The prostheses help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling children to face the world and their peers.
How can you help?
Donate your hair! Shave in support! Make a monetary donation! Donate online here. Minimum $5 donation for shaves. Money raised from this event goes to the Canadian Cancer Society and Angel Hair for Kids.
